Hydraulic Seal Ring

Our company supports the custom manufacturing of special-shaped seals made from fluororubber/perfluoroether rubber, such as hydraulic O-rings. Hydraulic seals are a general term for a series of sealing components specifically designed for hydraulic systems—including hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic valves, and hydraulic pumps. They encompass three main categories: dynamic seals (for piston rods and piston seals), static seals (for flanges and end-cap seals), and dust-sealing devices. The core requirements for these seals are “high-pressure resistance, resistance to hydraulic oil, wear resistance, and low friction,” ensuring the efficiency and reliability of pressure transmission in hydraulic systems.

Product Details

Product Description
• Product System:
◦ Dynamic sealing element: Includes piston rod seals (such as U-cups, V-cups, and combination seals like Glastron/Star Seal), as well as piston seals (such as U-cups for pistons and combination seals). Suitable for reciprocating speeds up to 1.5 m/s and withstanding pressures up to 63 MPa.
◦ Static sealing element: Includes hydraulic O-rings (with retaining rings) and hydraulic flat gaskets (such as oil-resistant rubber gaskets and metal-clad gaskets), suitable for flange and valve block interfaces, with a pressure rating of ≤40 MPa.
◦ Dustproof sealing element: Such as dust seals (PTFE + rubber composite structure) and wipers, which prevent dust and impurities from entering the hydraulic system, thereby avoiding hydraulic oil contamination and wear of sealing elements.
• Material properties:

The primary materials must meet the requirement of “hydraulic oil compatibility,” such as NBR/HNBR (compatible with mineral-based hydraulic oils), FKM (compatible with synthetic ester-based hydraulic oils), and PU (high-pressure resistant and highly wear-resistant). Auxiliary materials (such as retaining rings and guide rings) should be made of PTFE or PEEK (high-pressure resistant and low-friction), ensuring stable operation under service conditions ranging from -30℃ to 150℃, with a hydraulic oil permeation rate of ≤0.5% per year.
• Standards and Certification: Compliant with ISO 6020-1 (hydraulic seal dimensions), GB/T 10708.1 (hydraulic reciprocating seals), and SAE J200 (hydraulic fluid compatibility) standards; some products are ATEX- and IECEx-certified, making them suitable for use in explosion-proof hydraulic systems.

Function
• Core features: Prevent hydraulic oil leakage (internal leakage: leakage between the cylinder barrel and the piston; external leakage: leakage between the piston rod and the cylinder head). The internal leakage rate shall be ≤0.1 mL/min (meeting hydraulic cylinder efficiency standards), and the external leakage rate shall be “zero visible leakage.” At the same time, maintain stable pressure in the hydraulic system and ensure that pressure loss is ≤5% (thus avoiding energy waste).
• Accessibility features: The dust-sealing ring prevents impurities from entering, maintaining the cleanliness of the hydraulic oil (reaching NAS Class 8 or higher), thereby extending the service life of hydraulic pumps and hydraulic valves. The guide ring assists the piston rod/piston in moving centrally, preventing uneven wear on the seals and reducing frictional resistance (friction coefficient ≤ 0.15).

Sealing mechanism
• Dynamic seals (reciprocating seals): Take the combination seal (such as the GYLON seal) as an example: it consists of a PTFE sealing ring and a rubber elastomer. The elastomer provides preload, enabling initial contact between the PTFE sealing ring and the sealing surface. Hydraulic oil pressure then pushes the PTFE sealing ring tightly against the sealing surface, forming a high-pressure sealing zone. The low-friction properties of PTFE ensure smooth reciprocating motion, while its excellent wear resistance can effectively withstand even minor scratches on the sealing surface.
• Static seal: For example, in hydraulic O-rings equipped with retaining rings, the O-ring provides sealing contact pressure, while the retaining ring—made of PTFE or metal—prevents the O-ring from being squeezed out of its groove under high pressure. At the same time, the rigidity of the retaining ring can compensate for minor deformations on the sealing surface, thereby preventing “gap leakage.” As for metal-jacketed gaskets, their high-pressure static sealing is achieved through the rigidity of the metal outer shell combined with the sealing properties of the internal filling material.
• Dustproof seal: The lip of the dust seal faces outward. As the piston rod reciprocates, the lip scrapes away dust and impurities from the surface of the piston rod. At the same time, the elasticity of the lip allows it to closely conform to the surface of the piston rod, preventing impurities from becoming lodged in the sealing surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Image name

What are the differences between perfluoroelastomer rubber, fluororubber, and fluorosilicone rubber?

Image name

Perfluoroether rubber, fluoroelastomer, and fluorosilicone rubber are all high-performance sealing materials, yet each has its own unique characteristics. Perfluoroether rubber boasts exceptional chemical resistance and high-temperature tolerance, enabling it to withstand extreme chemical environments and elevated temperatures, making it ideal for demanding industrial applications. Fluoroelastomer excels in oil resistance, heat resistance, and weatherability, and is widely used in industries such as automotive and aerospace. Fluorosilicone rubber combines the chemical resistance of fluoroelastomer with the high- and low-temperature resistance of silicone rubber, making it well-suited for applications that require both thermal stability and chemical resistance. These three materials differ in chemical structure, performance, and application scenarios; when selecting one, it’s essential to consider specific requirements.
